The first CVL of 2016/17 was held at Bridgwater College on October 9th with a fantastic turn out from players, coaches and supporters, who all helped create a brilliant atmosphere and successful first tournament hosted by Bridgwater Bucs.

The day started with the under 12’s competition, which was very well represented with 1 Bucs team, 2 Comets teams and 3 teams from Taunton Tornadoes. The competition was a very high standard and fast paced. Every team experienced playing against each other in a round-robin format and they all showed good fundamentals and were well organised. Plenty of points were scored!

There was only 4 points difference between the two comets teams and two of the Taunton Tornadoes teams. It was an even tighter battle for top spot as Bucs and Tornadoes who were tied on 11 points. With no time for a playoff it went down to baskets scored, in which the impressive Tornadoes won it by 1 basket!

The U14’s Tournament was contested by Comets, Tornados and Millfield and turned into a very competitive event. All teams showed great commitment and determination throughout but it was Millfield who left the day unbeaten. Comets and Tornados both showed excellent spirit during the tournament and showcased some of the best plays from the day.

The final event of the day was the U16’s tournament which was fought between Bucs, comets and Tigers Girls. It started with Bucs vs Comets and the more physical Comets team ran out clear winners over Bucs. In the second game Bucs vs Tigers, Tigers showed great determination and skill to overcome Bucs in what was a tight score line.

In the final game Comets were put to the test by a much more technical Tigers team. Comets used their physical advantage to great success but at times were matched equally by the girls’ team. In the end Comets came away as the clear winners overall, with the day finishing with a great spectacle of a basketball game to watch.

The first CVL competition of the season was brilliantly supported by friends and family from all the different clubs!
