Bridgwater Bucs 3 withdraw from league due to low numbers
93Bridgwater Bucs 3 withdraw from the Somerset Basketball League with immediate affect due to low player numbers.
The Bridgwater Bucs have unfortunately had to withdraw their third team (Bucs 3) from the league for this season. During the Summer the club had significant interest from new and returning players wanting to take part in the SBL and in order to accommodate them, made the decision to field 3 teams for the 2019/20 season.
At the start of the season however, the majority of these players did not sign up, leaving the club with a pool of 15 players shared between the second and third teams. The club hoped to recruit more players to make the third team viable but have not been able to. As a result, in the interest of fairness and for financial reasons, Bridgwater Bucs in conjunction with the league committee have decided to withdraw Bucs 3 from the SBL.
Going forward, the four fixtures involving Bucs 3 up to this point will be removed from the league table. The league may look to reshuffle some fixtures after the winter break to reduce gaps and will liaise with teams regarding this.
Somerset Basketball would like to reiterate our commitment to growing Basketball in Somerset and will make every effort to accommodate new players and teams in the future.
