The second game of the season saw the Tigers host Bognor GSD (26/10/19). Tigers looking to extend their unbeaten run and Bognor looking to get their first of the season in NBL Division 3 South West.
Tigers started with intent and kept the tempo high. Mark Schroeder & Miko Makowski getting the scoreboard moving. It was defensively where Tigers had the upper hand limiting Bognor to just 8 point in the 1st quarter. Tigers did find themselves in foul trouble early on but Bognor where unable to capitalise, and Taunton continued shooting well, finishing the quarter with 4 successive 3 pointers making the score 25 – 8.
The second quarter was the Miko & Mark show, combining to score 15 of the teams 19 points. Bognor started to find a little more success but Igors Kuznecovs continued to lead the Tigers defensively and limited the travelling team to only 13 points. The first half ended with Taunton leading 44 – 21.
The third quarter saw Bognor’s 7’1” centre Luke Attfield start to impose himself on the game, scoring well himself and also collecting the offensive rebounds to give his team second chances to narrow the gap. Attfield would go on to finish the game with 14 points. Taunton’s shooting slowed and limited success from inside and outside only scoring 5 from 21 shots. The game however took a detour after two of the Bognor bench where ejected from the building follow an on court scuffle. When the Game resumed Lewis Cuthbert was able hold his nerve and hit 4 consecutive three throws. The third quarter ended with Tigers still leading 65 – 38.
Tigers found it hard going in the fourth with Attfield continuing to use his size to Bognor’s advantage and Bognor’s captain I. Marshall taking it upon himself to get his team back in the game. Marshall scoring 14 of 20 points and Tigers seemingly not having an answer for him. Bognor closed within 14 points with 5 minutes to go, but Miko kept the Tigers score board ticking over and finished the game with a game high 25 points.
