Taunton Tigers made their return to senior National League Basketball this week after a 5-year absence. Playing at their new home venue, Richard Huish College, they hosted Bristol Academy Flyers II in the National Cup first round.

Bristol Flyers took an early lead in the first quarter but Taunton were able to bounce back in the second with good defensive pressure leading to some clinical offense. Tiger’s guards Igors Kuzņecovs and Joe Andrews combined well on the defensive front line.

The offense continued to improve in the third quarter for Tigers with Jack Roberts making strong moves to the basket and giving them a narrow lead. Bristol were never far behind though and shot the ball well throughout the game.

Towards the end of the final quarter Taunton were ahead by a single point but were unable to execute on offense against tough pressure. With less than a minute remaining Bristol made a 3 pointer from the corner to give them a 2-point lead. Tigers had a chance to tie it up but the shot narrowly missed and Bristol held on to advance to the next round of the competition.

A disappointing loss but an exciting first match in front of a large home crowd for Taunton Tigers new senior Men’s team. Their next home match is Sunday 24th September at Richard Huish College, 4pm tip-off.
