Huish Taunton Tigers played their first home game of the season on Saturday (27/10/18), defeating Oxford Stealers in front of a large home crowd, 90 – 57.

Oxford are yet to record a win in NBL D4SW and Tigers having won their previous game against Cardiff, were feeling confident ahead of the match. They started well, making good use of their size advantage and scoring easily around the basket. Ryan Parker-Bowker and Mark Schroeder lead the way with 8 and 7 points respectively in the early stages.

Towards the end of the first quarter and into the second, with Oxford switching to a zone defence, Tigers found their shooting form outside, making 5 from behind the 3-point line. By the end of the first half Tigers held a comfortable lead, 46 – 32.

The second half was a similar story with Tigers extending their lead further. Schroeder enjoyed a strong third quarter, adding another 6 points to his total. Guard Casey Williams made quick moves to the basket, scoring or getting to the free-throw line. Liam Vickery played with confidence all game, getting into good positions to score or get fouled.

It was a good all-round performance for Tigers and a solid display in front of their home supporters. They were able to limit their turnovers and had 6 players score in double digits. Despite being outmatched, Oxford competed hard all game and showed flashes of what they are capable of with good spells of play. At times they shot well, matching Tigers for 3-pointers made, each team scoring 9.

With their second win Tigers jumped from 5th to 2nd in the league, placing them just below Bristol Hurricanes who this weekend, won away from home against Surrey Rams 73 – 83 and remain undefeated in league competition. Tigers will face Hurricanes away in their next fixture on 17/11/18. Tigers next home game will take place on Saturday 8th December when they host RCT gladiators at Richard Huish College, 19:00 tip-off.
