Culm Valley Comets 2 withdraw from the Somerset Basketball League with immediate affect due to low player numbers.

Culm Valley Comets have unfortunately had to withdraw their Second team (Comets 2) from the league for this season. For the same reasons facing Bucs 3 earlier in the season, initial interest over the summer waned as the season began and the club found themselves fielding the same players in both teams to make up numbers.

In the interest of fairness, the Comets club committee have regrettably voted to withdraw their second team from the SBL. The club remains committed to maintaining their first team and offers to apologies to the players and teams this decision affects.

As with previous withdrawals, the fixtures involving Comets 2 up to this point will be removed from the league table.

One of the primary goals for Somerset Basketball is to grow participation in the area and adding new teams to the league is obviously a positive step towards that. Adding new teams from existing clubs when there is enough demand is a good way to do this as it lowers the barrier of entry.

Maintaining a team has a number of challenges as players come and go and it is inevitable that there will be stumbling blocks in growing participation. But the goal remains the same and Somerset Basketball will do everything it can to support new players and teams going forward.
