201Tags: 22/23, SBL

Bridgwater Blackhawks secure the 2022/23 Somerset Basketball League title with their win against Taunton Tornados.

Heading into the match against Tornados there was still a chance for movement at the top of the table but Blackhawks, who have shown great form in their first season in the SBL, laid the hopes of those challenging teams to rest with a clinical victory away from home. With the top spot guaranteed they have two fixtures left to play, both home games, against Huish Tigers and Taunton Tornados.

Blackhawks have also had success in the Exeter & District Basketball Association, winning the second division (15 wins 3 losses) and making it all the way to the Premier Play-off Final, defeating Exeter Uni II and North Devon on the way. They face Exeter Uni I in the Final on Sunday 26th March at Exeter College, tip-off 3pm.

With 15 games still to play in the SBL the other league positions remain up for grabs. At the time of writing Tornados hold the second spot with 6 wins, 5 losses and 3 games remaining. Bridgwater Bucs are third with 6 wins, 3 losses and 5 games remaining. Huish Tigers are fourth with the same record as Bucs but currently losing out due to head-to-head results. Bucs host Huish on Tuesday 28th March and Tornados host Bucs Wednesday 26th April.

In fifth place is Taunton Tornados 2 but sixth place Taunton Dragons are right on their heels. Finally in 7th and 8th is Bridgwater Bucs 2 and Chard Flight who could also see their league positions move up if they can secure wins in their 4 remaining fixtures. So, everything could change depending on results in the remaining league matches and still plenty to play for!
