Arrangements for the 2017/18 season

We are looking forward to next season and we hope once again to be running the Senior Men’s Somerset League. Teams are asked to contact the league and inform us of your intentions for next year.

Congratulations to Bucs and Baltics for such an enthralling Playoff final. Those who enjoyed the spectacle will know what a fine example of Basketball it was and a real advert for the game here in Somerset.

Several of us referee in other leagues and the standard of play in Somerset compares very well to elsewhere in the South West. Work is underway to enter a senior Huish Taunton Tigers team, into National League team for next season, which is a reflection of the talent in the area. We wish them well and I’d like to encourage everyone to support them, as I know this would be greatly appreciated. Anyone interested in trying out for this team should contact richarda@richuish.ac.uk.

Many thanks to all the coaches and support staff who have given up their time to develop players, both young and old to help improve their game. I trust all players appreciate the commitment and dedication these people show. I would like to thank them for all they have done, which has made the league a success and collectively raise the standard and opportunities for Basketball in Somerset.

Special thanks must be given to Francis Scarborough, treasurer and registration secretary, and to Shervin Farzeneh for referee’s appointments. Both Shervin and Francis have been instrumental in the running of the Somerset leagues since it’s inception and we owe them a debt of gratitude for all they have done and the time they’ve given up.

We are looking forward to next season and we hope once again to be running the Senior Men’s Somerset League. The league will only run with a minimum of six teams entered. Existing teams as well as anyone interested in entering a team are asked to contact myself (David Hatrey, Somerset Basketball Chairman, dnhatrey@gmail.com) or any committee member to register your interest for the 2017/17 competition. Please do this as soon as possible to help us plan for next season.

If there are less than six teams entered by the end of June it will not be viable to run a league. We would like to encourage all teams, existing or new to please get in touch and inform the league of your intentions. We require early commitment to put in place plans for next season and in the event of there not being a league, contingency for players and teams to play elsewhere.
