Somerset Basketball League Match Cancellation Procedure

8By Francis ScarboroughTags: Policy, SBL

In the event that a fixture must be cancelled and subsequently rearranged it is important that everyone involved is notified in a timely manner. This procedure outlines the steps teams should take should a cancellation be necessary.

Any club/team that has a valid reason for cancelling a published fixture must immediately notify:

  • Both referees: The cancelling team must either speak to the referees concerned or receive emailed or text confirmation from the referee that they have been notified of the cancellation.
  • The opposition: The cancelling team must receive confirmation from the opposition that they have been notified of the cancellation.
  • Website: The cancelling team must send an email to basketballsomerset@gmail.com so that the league website can be updated and messages posted on social media.
  • Fixtures Secretary: Notify Ian Spearman who will help co-ordinate rescheduling the fixture. You should also agree with the opposition possible alternative dates for the cancelled fixture and inform Ian. Ian can then let the teams know if referees are available and agree the rearranged date.

Penalties

  • If a game is cancelled and the referees and opposition are notified 48 hours or more before the scheduled start time then no penalty (fine) is payable, (acknowledgements from refs and opposition must be received).
  • If a game is cancelled within 48 hours of the start time by the away team the home team can claim the court hire expenses from the away team.
  • If a game is cancelled within 24 hours of the start time then the referees can claim match expenses. This is payable by the cancelling team.
  • If a game is cancelled so late by the home team that the away team has already travelled, then reasonable travel expenses can be claimed by the away team from the home team.

Notes

  • The SBL will issue a full list of contact details for clubs and referees.
  • Teams may appeal against any fines levied to the SBL committee within 5 days of the fixture being cancelled.
