Huish Tigers are SBL 2021/22 League Champions
152Huish Tigers have secured the number 1 position in the table after defeating Bridgwater Bucs in their final league game of the season.
Tigers ended their league campaign with a strong performance at home, defeating Bucs 61 – 58 after a tense 4th quarter and exciting finish to the match. Huish took an early lead which they held for most of the game, but Bridgwater made a run in the final quarter with good shooting to tie the scores with 2 minutes left to play. Huish’s J. Mokoi showed excellent poise though and was clinical down the stretch hitting a key jump shot and free throw to give Huish the edge. Mokoi led all scorers with 19 points. A. Ross added 16 points for Tigers, pouring in 12 in the first half. Bucs scoring was led by T. Bothelo 17 points and K. Anderson 11 points.
Congratulations to Huish Tigers on winning the league in their very first season, finishing with 9 wins and just 1 loss. Tigers also compete in the NBL Under 18 Western Premier division and currently sit in 5th place. A win in their final league match against City of Birmingham Rockets tomorrow (19/03/22) would see them move up to 4th.
There are now just two SBL league matches remaining, Taunton Dragons and Bridgwater Bucs 2 will take turns to host each other and following those matches the Playoff competition will be arranged:
