In an effort to continue to keep everyone in the community safe, Somerset Basketball is encouraging self-screening and lateral flow testing prior to all basketball activities per Basketball England guidance.

The return to basketball this season has been great to see and a real boost for everyone after the long, pandemic enforced hiatus.

In order to keep basketball viable during the evolving situation with the COVID-19 virus it is important players, coaches, officials and spectators are aware of the things they can do to minimise the risks inherent in indoor sports like basketball for COVID-19 infection and transmission.

Somerset Basketball is encouraging everyone to conduct a lateral flow test prior to attending games, training and related events. Free lateral flow test packs can be ordered via the UK Government website: www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

This advice follows the guidance put out by the UK basketball governing body Basketball England: www.basketballengland.co.uk/inclusion/safeguarding/return-to-play-guidance

1. If you feel unwell, stay at home and get tested
2. What can individuals do? Wear a mask, follow hygiene guidance, social distance
3. What can clubs do? Test, screen, sound venue hygiene/management

What is self-screening? Ask yourself - do I have a cough, cold, fever, headaches or generally feel unwell? If so, do not play basketball.
